Agencies

To date, Ministry of Science and ICT has five organizations under its jurisdiction. These are:

 

1. Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC)

2. Bangladesh Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR)

3. Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC)

4. Bangladesh Scientific and Technical Documentation Centre (BANSDOC)

5. National Museum of Science and Technology (NMST)

 

Besides, National Institute of Biotechnology (NIB) and Novo Theatre are in the process of being evolved as separate organizations.



Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission

Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) is also an autonomus body administered by Ministry of Science and Information & Communication Technology. The focal activities of BAEC is development of nuclear technology and human resources development in medicine, food, agriculture, industry, electricity and energy, geology, nuclear materials, etc. features in the BAEC programmes on peaceful application of atomic energy in the country. BAEC activities are conducted under four broad disciplines namely (1) Bio-sciences, (2) Physical Science sector (3) Engineering and (4) Nuclear power and energy.

Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
BCSIR is an autonomous body financed by the Government of Bangladesh. Its research activities are run by the nine institutions in accordance with specified research programmes for socio-economic development of the country. Since its establishment, 600 processes have been developed by its scientists to help industrialization of the country. 251 patents have been developed and registered 235 processes have been leased out, of which 35 processes have been turned into industries. Many processes are a waiting for lease out.

Bangladesh Computer Council

To promote and to accelerate the development of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector of the country, the government constituted a statutory corporate body by an Act of Parliament, vide Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Act, 1990.

National Museum of Science & Technology

National Museum of Science & Technology (NMST) is an informal science education institution. The present activities of the museum can mainly be classified into three categories, namely i) Exhibition in gallery; ii) Educational activities and iii) Publications. Six galleries are now open for visitors..  This institute also conduct National Science & Technology week every year.
